About b-live

Q) What is b-live for?
A) b-live is a vibrant, dynamic website that offers a unique careers service to young people (between the ages of 11 and 19). The site’s features include job descriptions and opportunities with some of the UK’s biggest companies, case studies, quizzes, competitions, CV builder and career matcher, while the social networking areas; forums, clubs and instant messenger allow members to interact in a safe, friendly environment. Creating your own minime and MyPage is all part of the fun too.

Q) How much does b-live cost?
A) b-live is a free service, all you have to do is register to access the site.

Q) Can I use it at home?
A) As long as you have an internet connection, your username and password you will be able to access the site.

Q) Can my teacher see my info or what I am doing on the site?

A) Your teacher has access to limited information such as your username, password and CV. However, they cannot see any of the social networking areas of the site, including the forums, clubs, My Page and instant messenger.

Account

Q) I’ve forgotten my password/username what do I do?
A) You need to contact the b-live team by emailing us at: enquiries@b-live.com or ask the teacher who is responsible for your school’s b-live account, who can access your password through the teachers’ area of the site.

Q) How do I change details like school year on my account?
A) There are certain things you can change on your account by going into the settings area, top right hand side on your home page. Simply change the details and submit. However, to change your school year or user name you need to contact us at: enquiries@b-live.com as you cannot change this information yourself. 

Q) I’ve now left school how do I close my account?
A) Send us an email to enquiries@b-live.com explaining that you would like to close your account and we’ll do the rest.

BOOM points

Q) What are BOOM points and how do I earn BOOM points?
A) BOOM points are everywhere, and it’s your job to collect them by touring the site daily and taking advantage of its fantastic content and competitions, the more you collect the better.

You will find a BOOM badge on most of the sites’ pages; look in the top right-hand side, each button has its own BOOM value, to collect those points, simply click on the BOOM button and watch your BOOM total grow. 

Q) Can I get extra BOOM points?
A) The only way to collect BOOM points is to gather them on the website. Sometimes you can get extra points by taking part in forums or sending in your opinions. Keep an eye out for extra opportunities to collect points and take time to explore the site and collect as many points as you can. 

Q) What are BOOM points for?
A) You can use BOOM points to buy new clothes for your Minime. From shoes and bags to pets and hats, you’ll want to make your Minime stand out and really reflect your true personality. The more BOOM points you get the more options you have for your Minime.

Bullying

Q) What happens if I am getting bullied by another b-liver?
A) Firstly make sure that they cannot contact you by blocking them through email and removing them from your list of friends. If you still experience problems then you can contact us and we will send the user a warning. The b-live moderator checks the forums and clubs regularly to ensure that no-one uses the site to bully others as well as making sure that all users stick to the rules. 

Clubs


Q) What are clubs for and who can use them?
A) Clubs are there for users to share interests and get in touch with other users that like similar things. Only full b-live members can access/set up clubs.

Q) Can I set up a club about anything?
A) Yes, as long as your club falls within the b-live site rules as set out in our terms and conditions, your club can be about anything. Any clubs or wall posts that are deemed by b-live to break the site rules will be removed.

E-mail

Q) What is b-live email account for?
A) Your b-live email account allows you to contact other b-livers through email, without giving out your personal email account. It also allows us to contact you with b-live news and bulletins without filling up your personal email account.

Q) How do I stop other b-livers emailing me if I don’t want them to?
A) The ‘block user’ button on your email account allows you to stop emails from any b-liver simply by clicking on the button. This means that the user you have blocked can no longer contact you through this email account.

Q) I keep getting emails from you, what am I supposed to do with them?
A) We send you an email – or e-shot - to let you know when new articles and competitions etc have been added to the site. Click on the message and it’ll take you straight to it. Remember the more information you put into your profile and the more up to date you keep the better we can tailor what we send out to meet your needs and the less likely it is you’ll receive something you are not interested in.

Forums

Q) What are the forums for and who can use them?

A) The forums have been created so that users can chat and debate in a mature, good-natured manner. Only full members can use the forums.

Q) What can I talk about in forums?
A) As long as you stick to the b-live rules as set out in our terms and conditions you are free to express your opinion in any way you like or talk about any subject that takes your fancy. The b-live moderator checks threads and posts throughout the day to ensure b-livers stick to the rules and keep the forums a friendly, safe and fun area to chat to people and swap views.

Q) Why do my forums threads/posts get deleted?
A) There may be a number of reasons why a forum thread or post is removed e.g. if a message or remark is considered racist, contains sexual or inappropriate material/swear words, or any form of bullying. We want the site to be a safe area where b-livers can talk to and make new friends, learn more about career options and above all have fun. To ensure that this is the case we have set down certain rules that we expect you to adhere to. Those that flout the rules will be given a warning and if they persist in breaking the rules they will have their membership suspended. To see the b-live user rules click here.

Q) Why can’t I put my msn address or any other personal contact details on b-live?
A) The rules of b-live membership state that you should not publish any personal details on the site; this is purely to protect you and make sure you are safe online. If you do publish personal details on b-live you are breaking the terms and conditions of your membership and therefore could have it suspended. Q) What can I do if I see a comment that I don’t like?

A) To the right of every thread post there is a link to report that post. If you see something you don’t like or want to make a confidential comment, click on the link and write your comment. Only the b-live admin team will be able to see what you write and we will remove posts as necessary. Alternatively you can email security@b-live.com and explain your concerns to us. 

Functionality

Q) When I click on a link I get the error message. What should I do?
A) Please contact us by email at: enquiries@b-live.com, explaining the problem and we’ll get our technical experts to put things right. If you can, email us a screen shot of the error message, so that we can deal with the problem more quickly

Instant messenger

Q) How does instant messenger work?
A) Firstly to use instant messenger you must be a full member. Instant messenger allows you to chat to friends in a similar way to msn. To be able to message friends both you and they need to be online and you can only chat to those that have accepted you as a friend on b-live. To go online simply click on the instant messenger icon on the top left of your home page. 

Q) What happens if someone sends me nasty messages?
A) You can choose who you do and don’t want to contact you on instant messenger by either accepting or denying them as friends online. If you change your mind about someone in your friends circle or another b-liver member is sending you messages simply remove them from your friends list.

Membership

Q) What does being a partial member mean?
As a partial member you have access to all of the site; except the social networking areas i.e. My Page, clubs, Minime and forums etc.

Q) How do I become a full member?

A) To be a full b-live member you must be validated by your school. To do this your school must be registered as a b-live school member. You must also fill in your b-live profile to gain access to the social networking areas of the site. The more information you give us the better we can help you find the perfect career. Keep your profile up to date and you will only receive information that is relevant to you. 

Q) Why can’t I use the forums?

A) Only full b-live members have access to the forums and the other social networking areas of the site such as instant messenger and the clubs. To find out how to become a full member, click here.

Q) Why can’t I add my friends to instant messenger?
A) Only full b-live members can access the social networking areas of the site, so check to see if they are a full member or partial member. You will only be able to message those members you have accepted as friends and vice versa. If they are a full member and you are still experiencing problems, contact us by email: enquiries@b-live.com

Q) Why can’t my friends access the forums or join the clubs?
A) Only full b-live members can access the social networking areas of the site, like forums, clubs and instant messenger, so check first to see if they are a full member or partial member. If they are a full member and you are still experiencing problems, contact us by email: enquiries@b-live.com

Q) What happens if I change schools?
A) When you change schools your membership will revert back to partial member status. You will need to get your new school to verify you so that you can become a full member again. 

Q) What’s my school presentation password?
A) Every b-live school has a unique presentation password that acts as a final security check when you register. Your school presentation password can be retrieved from your careers teacher at your school. You can also contact the b-live team by emailing us at: enquiries@b-live.com

Q) Why can’t I create a Minime?
A) Only full b-live members can create a Minime. To find out how to become a full member, click here.

Rules

Q) Are there any rules to using b-live?
A) Yes, they are what we call our terms and conditions, click here to read them.

Q) What happens if I break the rules?
A) You will receive a warning from the b-live administrator explaining that you have broken the rules and that if you break them again your membership will be suspended. If you break the rules again after receiving a warning your membership will be suspended and you will no longer be able to use the site. We will also inform your teacher.

Q) How do I know if I have broken the b-live rules?

A) Firstly you should read our terms and conditions to understand what is and isn’t allowed on site. If you do break the rules you will receive a written earning by email explaining how you have broken the rules and asking you not to do it again. If you then break the rules for a second time we will write to you to tell you that your memberships has been suspended and we will inform your teacher.
