Privacy Policy: The b-live Foundation CIC.
The b-live Foundation takes your privacy seriously and we do all we can to ensure that all personal information you provide to us is treated fairly and in accordance with the principles set out in the Data Protection Act 1998. This document details what information we collect, why we collect it and what we do with it after we have collected it.
If you have any questions regarding our use of your personal information, please send an e-mail to enquiries@b-live.com
1. What personal information do you collect about me?
If you view our home page without registering to b-live, then no personal information about you is collected at all.
If you choose to register with b-live then we will collect all of the personal information that you provide us with. This information includes your:
• name
• school
• year group
• date of birth
• gender
• e-mail address
• other personal information you supply to us as part of the registration process.
As you interact with b-live.com and take part in the site’s activities any further information that you chose to supply to us is also collected. This includes activities such as taking part in forums, chat rooms, competitions and clubs.
2. Do you collect other information about users of b-live.com from any other source?
No, we do not collect any personal information about you other than the information that you choose to supply to us.
We do use cookies and other web tracking technology on our website. Please see question 9 for more information regarding these. This is explained in more detail below.
3. Why do you collect information about b-live.com users?
We collect personal information for two reasons. Firstly, so that we can be sure you are who you claim to be when you register and, secondly, so that your b-live.com experience is tailored to match your preferences and interests. So for example, if you tell us that you are a student in Year 12 we will not send you information that is aimed at students in Year 8.
Collecting personal information helps us to ascertain general trends about the types of people that use our website – for example, how many boys and how many girls in specific year groups are enrolled on the website. We call this information about trends non-personal information. Having this type of non-personal information helps us ensure that new content created for the site is relevant to b-liver users. It also helps b-live.com sponsors provide relevant opportunities to meet the interests of our users.
Please note, we do not provide any personal details about users direct to our sponsors – see question 4 below for more information.
4. Do you share the personal information you collect with anybody else?
Apart from your school’s representative (this could be a careers teacher, other teacher, your head of year or head teacher) no personal information about you is shared with anybody else outside of the b-live Foundation.
Personal information about you will never be sold by us and we never transmit personal data about you outside of the European Union.
We share only non-personal information about you with our sponsors. Non personal information is information that can not identify you as a person. So this means we do NOT provide sponsors with details such as your name, address or date of birth. Personal information is only provided if you contact a sponsor to apply for an opportunity or requests further information about an opportunity.
5. Why do you share my personal information with my school’s representative?
We share personal information about you with your school’s representative so that your school’s representative can confirm that you are who you say you are and that nobody is using your name to gain inappropriate access to b-live.com.
We also do this so that your school’s representative can monitor which elements of the website that you like to use the most. This helps your school’s representative ensure that your school is delivering the PSHE curriculum or other required learning to you.
Your school’s representative is the person nominated by your school to hold this position. If you do not know who this is then please ask your head teacher or your form tutor. You may discuss the personal information that we share with your school’s representative at any time.
6. Can I check what information you hold about me?
Yes, every time you login into b-live.com you will be offered the opportunity to update or amend any of the personal information you have given us about you. You should feel free to change that information as often as you feel appropriate.
7. How long do you keep the information that you collect about me?
All the information you provide is retained by us until you tell us that you no longer wish to register to b-live.com. Also, if no use has been made of your user name and login details for a period longer than 24 months, then the information that we have held previously about you is automatically deleted from our system.
8. What happens if I click on an advertisement or apply for a job on your website?
If you click on any advertisement or apply for a job on our website, you may be transferred to a website operated by somebody other than us. When you do this, the privacy policies of the owner of that website will then apply. We suggest strongly that before you provide any personal information to any other organisations that you check out their privacy policies first. You should be able to find these online.
No personal information about you is passed by the b-live Foundation to that third party unless you specifically and knowingly consent to the transfer of such information.
9. What are “cookies”?
A "cookie" is a small piece of information sent by a website to your computer which can later be read back by that website. The cookie can identify your computer and tell the website whether you have visited the website before and which pages you have visited. This is useful so that the website can remember you.
10. What are cookies used for?
The common cookies we use are listed below:
• Website tracking: if our website designer wanted to see what content was of interest to b-live.com users, a cookie would be used to track visitors’ progress through the site. Site tracking can show our designers "Dead End Paths" which are places in our website that people go to and then wander off because they don't have any more interesting links to hit. It can also give us more accurate counts of how many people have been to pages on our site. This means we can establish that 50 unique people have visited our site rather than one person visiting it 50 times.
• Targeted marketing: this is probably one of the main uses of cookies. They can be used to build up a profile of where you go and what adverts you click on. This data is then used to target relevant information and opportunities to you – for example, sponsors with opportunities that may be of interest to you. Companies also use cookies to store details regarding which opportunities have been displayed so the same information does not get displayed twice.
11. Do you give any advice about what information I should post on your website?
We cannot collect any personal information about you unless you provide it to us. If you are not comfortable about providing any information to us then please do not supply it to us.
Please do not post any content or information about yourself in any area of the website that may be accessed by others if you do not want others to see it. This includes the information you post on your personal page, the forum, clubs and messages you send via the b-live.com email service and the instant messenger.
Please remember that once you have posted information about yourself in areas of the website that can be accessed by other users, then that other user may copy or record that information even if you later remove it from our website. Therefore, do not post any information that you may later regret or which may cause you embarrassment if transmitted to another audience by another user. For example, you should not upload a picture of yourself if you would be embarrassed if someone copied that picture and pinned it to your school notice board.
12. Do you ever change your privacy policy?
Our privacy policy is updated from time to time and your use of this website will be governed by this privacy policy as updated from time to time. It is important therefore that you regularly check back to examine our privacy policy on a regular basis.
13. Who should I contact if I have queries about this privacy policy?
Please send an e-mail to: enquiries@b-live.com
